About the Author and Illustrator
David Kāwika Eyre is a lifelong educator who served as a high school Hawaiian language teacher at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama for twenty-three years. His books have received numerous Ka Palapala Po‘okela honors, including the Award of Excellence in Natural Science for By Wind, By Wave in 2000.

Brook Kapūkuniahi Parker is a Native Hawaiian artist from Kahalu‘u, O‘ahu. His artwork reflects ancestral ties to Hawaiian warriors and ali‘i, including Kamehameha the Great and his wife Kānekapōlei. An accomplished illustrator and public speaker, Brook’s recent works include commissions from the University of Hawai‘i and Disney’s Aulani Resort.
